Relatable & Grounded

The invitation to listen and speak into the life of another human being is perhaps the most humbling of asks, but I keep saying yes.

At the age of seven, I put my faith in Jesus and began sharing what little I knew with the neighborhood kids from the stored pulpit in our tiny trailer garage. While much of what I experienced after became a barrier to knowing God as a loving Father, there was no doubt that at the moment of faith, my little girl soul stirred with a passion to share Jesus with those around me. In this lifetime of learning, I’ve learned that our great God is continually inviting all of humanity into the greater story, right in the middle of our own stories, of His unrelenting and redemptive love. Today, as I continue to grow and learn, I seek to communicate with

  1. An engaged and renewed mind. “…the mind of the flesh leads to death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 6) Renewing and engaging our mind takes daily effort because we are human and need the Divine to help us walk in alignment with His good and perfect will. But we can rest assured, He will lead us in this wild balance of stepping with Him where He is leading to address lies, habits and mindsets that do not align with His best for us. We can trust His guidance as we stay curious and open to His voice on the journey to whole-hearted devotion to Jesus as Lord.
  2. A posture of prayer“…for the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth understanding…” (Proverbs 2). We cannot possibly know all the things. But, because of Jesus, we all have the amazing invitation and gift of sitting with the All-Knowing Father God to listen, to ask questions, to cry out with our groanings, and it’s there we find wisdom and gain understanding. Without daily prayer, and meditation, we fall prey to self-dependence and prideful pursuits.
  3. A surrendered heart: “From the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks”. Luke 6:45 What else can I say. Whatever comes out of our mouth is what is stored within our soul. “Search me and know my heart…” (Psalm 139) is a prayer that postures our body, mind and spirit before the all-knowing Sovereign Lord God. When we surrender our will and our way we begin to experience the One who longs to lavish us with love, understanding and wisdom. It is there we find trust in His ways, not our own limitations. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them“, Ephesians 2:10. When it’s Him, we live in a way that points others to Him not to self.
  4. Transparency: Throughout all of scripture, the Lord delights in an honest heart. To me, transparency with our stories is a beautiful picture of an honest and open heart. I’ve learned that by being real with my own story it invites others to be real in theirs and move forward in the sacred place of living a life seeped in the fullness of grace and love.  When we hide, we give way to jealousy, pride, selfish ambition and every desire of our flesh. Look into the life of King David, a man after God’s own heart who seemed to mess up royally. We won’t do it perfect, but I know without doubt, God wastes nothing, and everything, every circumstance, joy, challenge, victory and sorrow–is used for good; all of it. (Romans 8:28)
